Owners: Steve and Meg Lanphear with grandsons Ben and Caleb
We are a small, family farm located in the center of Belchertown and within a 5 minute walk to the Town common. On 8 acres, our focus is directed toward the fruit orchard consisting of primarily apples of which we have 25 varieties. In addition to the orchard, we have several bee hives, a sugar bush, some annuals, goats and chickens. With the help of our daughter, son-in-law and grandsons, the honey, maple syrup, and other offerings provide tasty additions to our orchard fruits. Integrated Pest Management (IPM), low spray and no spray are practiced on our various crops which also include peaches, nectarines, pears, and blueberries.
The orchard was established sometime in the 1940’s by Harold Peck who successfully operated it until the early 1970’s. The orchard was then purchased by Arlan Skinner and his wife, Clara, and managed by them until 1985 when we purchased the property. It wasn’t until 17 years later that we were able to begin in earnest the rejuvenation of the old orchard. Over the past 6 years nearly 200 new trees have been planted to augment the older varieties.
